Coventry LMC & Warwickshire LMC

Welcome to the joint website for both Coventry Local Medical Committee and Warwickshire Local Medical Committee. LMCs are the recognised, elected statutory bodies which represent General Practitioners.

Coventry and Warwickshire LMCs work collaboratively as two separate, independent representative bodies in close geographical proximity, working with the same regional NHS bodies.

Local Medical Committees have been the single element of continuity throughout the many re-organisations since the NHS started in 1948. LMCs predate the NHS and were established with statutory status in 1911.

Wellbeing

The LMCs provide support for members’ health, welfare and careers and we understand the challenges of working in General Practice. This support is provided by the Officers who are experienced in this area and committed to supporting the wellbeing of LMC constituents.

There are a variety of support available from other organisations – please go to our useful links page to find details of these. Should you wish to contact the Officers or require further information please contact the LMCs at Coventry.LMC@nhs.net

General Practice Alert State

GPAS is now being used by 60+ LMCs across England. The purpose of this is to provide clear and consistent evidence that shows the overall state of General Practice in the area, and identifies pressures and trends in terms of demand and resilience. This will be used both locally and nationally in negotiations and to state the case for General Practice, but will only work if we have good engagement with and support from Practices in Coventry and Warwickshire

Your Local LMC

LMCs are made up of practicing GPs and practice staff elected by local GPs and are bodies recognised in statute that represent the interests of all local GPs and their teams. Coventry LMC is the overarching organisation that represents 27 boroughs across the capital. We provide LMCs with support and guidance on pan-Coventry and local issues, via our primary care, communications, resources and GP support directorates.
